On a quiet residential street not far from the center of the historic Castro District is a decorated box attached to a post. At first glance it appears to be one of those familiar Little Free Library boxes or the similar Little Free Pantry boxes — but this is something different.
This is a trinket trade box.
A trinket trade box works a little differently. First, obviously it’s filled with trinkets instead of books or food. Second — and this is important — you’re supposed to take a trinket and leave your own.
This particular box also offers some free trinkets on top if you have nothing to give at the moment. But heed the abundant warnings signs! Break the rules and it’s going on your permanent record.
