{"id":87,"date":"2009-10-07T04:16:32","date_gmt":"2009-10-07T04:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/?p=87"},"modified":"2023-07-14T19:31:48","modified_gmt":"2023-07-14T19:31:48","slug":"on-dane-cooks-comedy-career","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/rant\/on-dane-cooks-comedy-career\/","title":{"rendered":"On Dane Cook&#8217;s &#8220;comedy&#8221; career"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The funny thing about Dane Cook is that he&#8217;s not funny.&nbsp; This would be unremarkable were it not for his comedy albums, films, and TV specials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How can a comedian who isn&#8217;t funny be so popular?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was bothering me a while ago, but I&#8217;ve finally realized that every Cook fan I&#8217;d ever met was a frat guy. I think that explains it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s my screenplay of how Cook became famous. Imagine this happening in every dorm across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-preformatted\"><strong>INT. ROWDY FRAT HOUSE - NIGHT<\/strong>\n\n   A party is taking place.  FRAT GUY is looking for action\n   and SORORITY GIRL is bored and watching TV.  Dane Cook is on.\n   SORORITY GIRL is staring at the screen.\n\n           FRAT GUY approaches SORORITY GIRL.\n\n                       FRAT GUY\n           Hey, what's up?\n\n                     SORORITY GIRL\n                       (drinking)\n           Watching Dane Cook.  He's funny!\n\n                       FRAT GUY\n                      (oblivious)\n           Oh, yeah... um.  Dane Cook!  He's\n           great.  Like that one thing he\n           does, um...\n\n                     SORORITY GIRL\n           Could you hand me that beer?\n\n                       FRAT GUY\n                 (Hands her a beer and\n                  sits next to her)\n           Sure, here.\n\n           She chugs the beer quickly.\n\n                     SORORITY GIRL\n           Ahh. Oh man.  Oh.  Hey.... you're\n           so hot, I wanna **** *** **** ***\n           ***!\n\n   Sorority Girl smiles drunkenly and goes down out of the\n   frame.  Frat Guy stretches and smiles in contentment.\n\n\n<strong>INT. RECORD STORE - DAY<\/strong>\n\n   In the comedy isle, FRAT GUY picks up every Dane Cook CD\n   they have and puts it into his basket.\n\n\n<strong>EXT. COLLEGE CAMPUS - DAY<\/strong>\n\n   Outside a building, FRAT GUY is standing around waiting.\n   SORORITY GIRL exits the door and he meets up with her.\n\n                     FRAT GUY\n           Hey, what's up?\n\n                  SORORITY GIRL\n                    (startled)\n           Oh... uh.  Hi.  Not much.\n\n                     FRAT GUY\n           Hey, remember how you said you like\n           Dane Cook?  Well I was just listening\n           to his CDs and...\n\n                  SORORITY GIRL\n                   (confused)\n           Dane who?  What are you talking about?\n\n                   FRAT GUY\n           I um... so you wanna...\n\n                  SORORITY GIRL\n                    (annoyed)\n           Uh, I gotta go.<\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Makes sense?
