{"id":8479,"date":"2019-07-05T03:39:42","date_gmt":"2019-07-05T03:39:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/?p=8479"},"modified":"2023-07-12T04:30:29","modified_gmt":"2023-07-12T04:30:29","slug":"mission-san-rafael-arcangel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/local\/mission-san-rafael-arcangel\/","title":{"rendered":"Mission San Rafael Arcangel"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mrericsir\/48201651177\/in\/dateposted\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/48201651177_c9a5ca5775_z.jpg\" alt=\"Mission San Rafael Arcangel\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the Forth of July weekend, I decided to split the difference between a real vacation and a &#8220;staycation,&#8221; opting to explore several parts of the North Bay I&#8217;ve never or rarely been to in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My first stop is in San Rafael, named after the second to last of the Spanish missions in California: Mission San Rafael Arcangel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The above photo is the current incarnation of this mission. Nothing stands of the original structures. I&#8217;m not entirely clear why they built something that&#8217;s clearly an architectural mashup between a modern church and the style of an early 19th century mission, especially since it just comes across looking ridiculous.
