Perhaps it&#8217;s because it&#8217;s the home of the Salt Lake itself, which is often compared to the Dead Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here I&#8217;m taking a look at three religions that stuck out at me in Salt Lake City, and ranking them from best to&#8230; least best. Without further ado, here they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mrericsir\/40772726413\/in\/dateposted\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/40772726413_cf803997e9_z.jpg\" alt=\"City Creek Center\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Capitalism<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Capitalism is the number one religion in the United States, though some adherents to this fundamentalist religion also hold secondary faiths as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">City Creek Center, located at South Temple and West Temple is a multistory indoor\/outdoor shrine to capitalism. This sacred site features well manicured gardens and water features throughout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The largest chapel, known as &#8220;Macy&#8217;s,&#8221; offers a variety of both holy and unholy garments and household wares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mrericsir\/40772729063\/in\/dateposted\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/40772729063_0f6f7c9611_z.jpg\" alt=\"Temple Square\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Mormonism\/The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just north of City Creek Center is Temple Square. This site is the heart of Mormonism, or whatever it&#8217;s called now. This sacred site also features well manicured gardens and water features throughout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The largest chapel, known as the &#8220;office building,&#8221; houses many floors of workers promoting Mormonism (or whatever it&#8217;s called now.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bonus fact: Mormonism holds the official Guinness world record as the &#8220;world&#8217;s whitest religion.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mrericsir\/47736895391\/in\/dateposted\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/47736895391_26e308994a.jpg\" alt=\"Summum Pyramid\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. Summum<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A small pyramid on the rural outskirts of Salt Lake City is the spiritual home of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Summum\">Summum.<\/a> This religion is inspired by ancient Egypt, sort of like Rosicrucianism but with a greater emphasis on drinking homemade wine. Oh and they mummify both human and feline remains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The religion&#8217;s philosophies are a little&#8230; convoluted, even by the standards of 1970&#8217;s American religions, which is why it&#8217;s ranked last on this list. Sorry, Summum, but you&#8217;re going to need a bigger pyramid if you want to stay competitive in Salt Lake City&#8217;s religion scene.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Salt Lake City is a hotbed for religious activities.
