If you&#8217;re unaware, the top of the tower isn&#8217;t offices, but rather a <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.curbed.com\/2017\/5\/4\/15551324\/salesforce-tower-led-art-sf\">light-based public art display.<\/a> Visible throughout much of the city, this will be a big change to the skyline &#8212; weather permitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, it should be noted that San Francisco has a mixed reputation when it comes to permanent light-based art installations. While the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Bay_Lights\">Bay Lights<\/a> have been successfully lighting up the Bay Bridge, the <a href=\"https:\/\/sf.curbed.com\/2017\/8\/15\/16152420\/embarcadero-sidewalk-lights-ribbon-sf\">Promenade Ribbon<\/a> along the Embarcadero didn&#8217;t last very long due to water damage. I mean, who could have foreseen water damage as a problem along the edge of the bay?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For that matter, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/local\/black-rectangle-to-be-removed-from-moscone-west\/\">black rectangle<\/a> that used to sit on the side of Moscone West was intended to be a light show of sorts, but didn&#8217;t work well and was eventually removed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So let&#8217;s hope Salesforce Tower&#8217;s light artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jimcampbell.tv\/\">Jim Campbell<\/a> knows a thing or two about fog-proofing his designs or this new installation may flicker out as well.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today for the first time I noticed the LED grid in the &#8220;hat&#8221; on Salesforce Tower was being tested.
