{"id":2037,"date":"2012-08-18T22:27:56","date_gmt":"2012-08-18T22:27:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/?p=2037"},"modified":"2023-07-13T22:56:47","modified_gmt":"2023-07-13T22:56:47","slug":"alley-barrels-new-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/local\/alley-barrels-new-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Alley Barrel&#8217;s new rules"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/mrericsir\/7810858772\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8430\/7810858772_ef6a9e3379.jpg\" alt=\"New rules at Alley Barrel\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, I posted a photo of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mrericsir.com\/blog\/local\/alley-barrel-rules-and-regulations\/\">Alley Barrel&#8217;s rules<\/a>, which notably contains a tongue-in-cheek provision banning hipster conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After some <a href=\"http:\/\/uptownalmanac.com\/2012\/08\/no-more-talking-about-annoying-hipster-topics-and-who-you-fucked-last-night-four-barrel\">local<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/sfist.com\/2012\/08\/14\/four_barrel_bans_annoying_hipster_c.php\">coverage<\/a>, several <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2012\/08\/16\/four-barrel-hipster-rules_n_1778958.html\">major<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/gawker.com\/5935336\/coffee-shop-bans-talking-about-annoying-hipster-topics-irony-reflects-back-on-itself-on-and-on-to-infinity\">sites<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-2189536\/Four-Barrel-Coffee-Annoying-hipster-conversations-banned-shop--including-slept-night.html\">covered<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/us\/2012\/08\/17\/san-francisco-coffeeshop-bans-hipster-conversations\/\">the<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/money\/la-fi-mo-cafe-hipster-ban-20120817,0,4541569.story\">story<\/a>. Why? I dunno, but it was amusing to watch &#8212; though a few commenters seemingly interpreted the hipster rule as VERY serious, most readers recognized that hipsters complaining about hipsters is the very type of irony that defines modern hipster culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This weekend, I went back and found a modified version of their rules. Changes to note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A footnote for the rule about no hipster conversations claims the rule was a &#8220;complaint verbatim from our neighbor.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A sixth rule has been added, which reads:<br> <blockquote><p>not posting this on instagram, you hipster<\/p><\/blockquote><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Good thing I&#8217;m not hip enough to use Instagram.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, I posted a photo of Alley Barrel&#8217;s rules, which notably contains a tongue-in-cheek provision banning hipster conversations.
